Personal Profile

Paul has 20 years' experience in journalism, communications and training. He spent much of his career as a journalist, working on the busy newsdesk of The News, Portsmouth and later as a production editor, before venturing into automotive PR and then as a journalism educator.
During his time as a college and university lecturer, Paul has taught hundreds of students and apprentices, helping them to gain their NCTJ diploma in journalism and connecting them with employers.
Paul is a specialist in media law and is available to give editorial advice on an ad hoc or retained basis to publishers and deliver online or face-to-face training sessions to corporate clients and students. He also works closely with the NCTJ - the journalism industry body - to deliver regular online training sessions in reporting skills and public affairs.

Over the years, Paul has played his part in helping to diversify the industry by successfully designing and leading new journalism apprenticeship programmes and also chairing a session on diversity at the Behind Local News annual conference.
Paul is currently in his first year as a PhD student examining trust and misinformation in regional journalism.
